In 2016, I made 172 mugs for my wedding. After receiving multiple small batch requests I decided to open my pottery to a wider audience.
While I retired my studio in 2021 due to downsizing, I am still creating for friends and family.
One method I find unique in particular, is my use of micaceous clay. This clay body and it's uses were mastered by Native American tribes in northern New Mexico (best known in the Taos and Picuris Pueblo regions). The mica in the clay body can withstand open flame and a range of temperature shock which makes it ideal for open flame and bakeware. The mica is also known to posses the quality to mellow bitter flavors and was often used to cook beans in due to adding a slightly sweet note to the dish. As an avid baker, I use the micaceous clay to throw baking cloche sets. The mica in the cloche allows for a perfect environment for proofing and baking crunchy bread.
